TECO Westinghouse is one of the world’s top 3 manufacturers of industrial electric motors, and their durable motors drive everything from pumps and fans to grinders and crushers. At HECO, we know their motors are high quality and that’s one of the reasons we are a distributor for TECO Westinghouse electric motors.
Short History of TECO Westinghouse
The Taiwanese company TECO Electric & Machinery Co, Inc. was founded in 1956 as an industrial motor manufacturer and grew to become globally known for quality, efficient motors thanks to their motto of “Quality First.” They quickly became the leading motor company in Taiwan, and later the world as they began to export their industrial motors.
Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company was founded in 1886 by George Westinghouse, who was an American engineer, entrepreneur, and a direct competitor of Thomas Edison. In 1945 the company was renamed Westinghouse Electric Corporation. In 1975, the production of heavy industrial motors moved from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Round Rock, Texas, and the Heavy Industrial Motor Division was born.
A joint venture between TECO and Westinghouse began in 1988 with the Westinghouse Motor Company focusing on large custom AC and DC motors while TECO manufactured less customized motors. By 1995, TECO decided to buy out Westinghouse’s share of the partnership and two years later the name was changed from Westinghouse Motor Company to TECO Westinghouse.
