What is a Variable Frequency Drive?

08/30/2016

Our friends at ABB put together the below video to demonstrate what a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) or Variable Speed Drive (VSD) is and how they can help you have better control over your plant as well as increased efficiency.

Controlling the way motors use electricity not only helps you save energy, but also reduce scrap and maintenance costs. This motor control comes in technology we call AC drives - also known as variable speed drives (VSD) or variable frequency drives (VFD). But how do variable speed drives work? This video provides a not-too-technical explanation.
