Advances in condition monitoring, primarily for vibration analysis, are happening every day. Devices such as the ITT i-ALERT2 are allowing condition monitoring for predictive maintenance to become more affordable than ever. Systems that perform functions that used to cost thousands per machine now cost only hundereds.
Mobile technology is advancing and sensor technology is advancing allowing for these products to use familiar technologies in unique ways. One of these is Bluetooth.
Bluetooth is becoming more and more popular in industrial environments and in condition monitoring. It allows machines to communicate with mobile devices such as your smartphone or tablet. You have the technology on devices you own already and now you can take advantage of it on the plant floor.
With Bluetooth, the download of data is lightining fast. These condition monitoring devices track and trend tri-axial vibration and temperature as well. Many can take full FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) spectrum plots of the vibration data for detailed analysis and download it to your phone or tablet in seconds.
Generally this answer is in the thousands, if not hundreds of thousands. If you can purchase a monitoring device for under a thousand dollars that will help you protect that investment, is it not a simple decision? For most people it is a simple decision but when they have researched condition monitoring products, "in the past" the quotations did not come back in the hunderds, they cam back signfigantly more expensove. Well, times are changing and products are advancing and it may be time to take a look again.
