HECO History Hatfield Electric Company was founded in May 1959 by Terrell L. Hatfield. The property located on Superior Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI consisted of a double lot with a house and a two car garage. A 360 square foot extension was added to the garage, making a total of 936 square feet. Ralph C. Hatfield, Terrell's father, became a partner in the late fall of 1959.
During the 1960's, Hatfield Electric Company continued to experience substantial growth in both physical plant size and personnel. 1965 - Sold property on Superior Avenue and purchased 3 1/2 acres on South Burdick, started the plans to build a new plant and office at 3509 South Burdick. 1966 - Hatfield Electric Company moved into a new 8,125 square foot plant, our present facility 1968 - A 3,400 square foot addition was built, which today is our parts storage area and winding department.
1971 - Hatfield Electric designed the first burn-out oven made for stripping coils to be approved by the Michigan Department of Health and the DNR to meet Michigan's air pollution standards. 1974 - Again the need for more shop area was necessary, and 6,500 square feet was added to our Service Center.
1975 - With the addition of a 4,500 square foot warehouse, we became the largest Independent Sales/Service Center in Michigan, both in square footage and total personnel. 1982 thru 1985 - A new warehouse was built adding over 17,500 square feet, and as of the Fall of 1986, our total building space is over 41,000 square feet 1990 - Purchased 2 1/2 acres next to property on Burdick Street. We now have a total of 6 acres for future expansion. 1991 - Hatfield Electric Company becomes HECO, Inc. Industrial Service Groups. 1992 - A $1,800,000.00 15,000 square foot expansion program is initiated, making HECO, Inc. the largest repair facility of its kind in the Midwest with a square footage of 65,000.
1994- Mark S. Hatfield, Brad S. Hatfield and Todd A. Hatfield purchased the business from Terrell and Joyce Hatfield. 2000- HECO Purchased a 30,000lb capacity computerized balance stand and upgraded our 5,000lb stand with new controls. HECO, EMS developed a Web Based Motor Management program, the first of its kind in our industry! 2003- HECO installed a new company computer system for order entry, inventory control, and company financials. We also installed a rebuilt 72" x 13" Long engine Lathe. 2005- HECO upgraded its network computer system with a new server and new software. We also upgraded miscellaneous computers through out the company. HECO also purchased another CSI computerized vibration analyzer for expanding our on-site capabilities.
